Thomas JonesBesides fantasy sports, one of my favorite things to do is waste away reading "interesting facts" on the internet. For instance, did you know that most American's car horns beep in the key of F? Or that Montpelier, Vermont is the only state capital without a McDonalds? Usually, interesting facts are interesting because they are unintuitive and completely useless. Well here at draftperfect.com we are re-writing the book on interesting facts! The following are 5 interesting facts about the 2009 football fantasy season. We hope you'll find them interesting, and eventually useful... Next week, look for 5 interesting facts pertaining to fantasy baseball.

Fact 1: Jonathan Stewart scored more fantasy points in standard scoring leagues than DeAngelo Williams.

What does this mean for the pair of Panthers? It's hard to tell right away because early rumors have DeAngelo landing somewhere else next year. Coming into last season, Williams was drafted as a top 7 or 8 runner despite a well documented time share with Stewart. I think Williams is still the top guy next year, but I no longer think you can write-off Stewart's impact as insignificant. With the emergence of guys like Jamaal Charles, Rashard Mendenhall and Jerome Harrison, Williams may see himself drafted outside the first 12-14 runners next season.

Fact 2: Thomas Jones scored 10 points or more in 13 of 16 weeks to lead all running backs.

This is not a misprint. Thomas Jones had more 10 point fantasy weeks than Chris Johnson, Adrian Peterson, Ray Rice and Joseph Addai who all tied for 2nd with 12. Jones is still considered a notch below elite despite posting back to back top 5 fantasy rushing seasons. Plain and simple, Jones is the most consistent fantasy back in the game today.

 Matt Moore

Fact 3: In games he started, Matt Moore never threw an interception or failed to score 10 or more fantasy points.

Watching Moore, I wasn't overwhelmed by enormous athletic talent or staggering arm strength but I was impressed by his ability to stay within himself and lean on the running game and Steve Smith. Moore might only be a mediocre fantasy option in 2010 but I think he will have a positive impact on the studs around him.

Fact 4: San Francisco finished the season as the number 1 fantasy defense.

The preseason juggernauts, the Giants and the Steelers, finished 24th and 16th respectively. San Fran was expected to be a middle of the pack D. Goes to show you never pay for defense.

Fact 5: There was a 45% drop in production from the number 1 RB and the number 10 RB and a 60% drop in production from the number 1 RB and the number 25 RB. In comparison, there was a 19% drop in production from the number 1 WR to the number 10 WR and a 41% drop in production from the number 1 WR to the number 25 WR.

Sorry, I don't mean to go all Geek Squad on you but the moral of the story is that top level RBs are still significantly better than the other guys, despite what any recent trend may dictate. It is still difficult to predict which RBs are going to be studs but in my opinion, it is vital to draft 2 RBs early because the dropoff is much more signifcant than that seen in the WR pool.

That should wrap-up the football articles for this season. Check back in next week for the 5 interesting facts baseball edition!
